Founder Future Assured / Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari has made tremendous contributions to victims of insurgency in the North Eastern part of Nigeria.
These efforts are the subject of a TV Documentary, now showing on stations across the Nation.

As you may be aware, records have shown that women are the most vulnerable and poorest group globally.  In Nigeria, this gap exists as a result of socio-economic and other factors.  Despite these challenges that women face in their journey, however, they must not be deterred as they are the fountain of wisdom and endurance.

This year’s theme. Be Bold for Change, encourages taking groundbreaking action that drives the greatest change for women; accelerating gender parity and helping women advance and unleash their limitless potential.

Let me use this opportunity to reaffirm my commitment towards the cause of women through my initiative “Future Assured” from which thousands of women and children have benefitted. 

It is imperative to appeal to all stakeholders particularly Governments at all levels to rise to the global challenge of ensuring the achievement of gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls in line with the objective of sustainable development goals. “Educating a woman it is said is educating a Nation or generation”it is my wish therefore to felicitate with fellow Nigerian women and women all over the world on this very memorable and important day.

Over 6,000 beneficiaries have so far received skills acquisition training under the initiative of wife of the President “Future Assured”. This was made known during a courtesy visit by the Northern Wives Governors Forum (NWGF) to the wife of the President Mrs. Aisha Buhari.

Her Excellency, Mrs. Aisha Buhari disclosed that it cost an average of two million naira to train between 300-400 individuals, and so far training which lasts from two to six months had held successfully in Lagos and Katsina states, whilst it is currently ongoing in Kano. She further made it known that the training programmes would take place in all the states in the federation.

Mrs. Buhari emphasized the need to empower parents to enable them meet financial obligations towards their children.

She further thanked them for their prayers for the progress of the country.

Earlier, the chairperson of the forum, Mrs. Asma’u Abdul Azeez Yari intimated the wife of the President that the meeting was the first of its kind to hold this year, she said they deliberated on matters that needed urgent attention, top of which was how to curtail the rising drug problem in the Northern Nigeria. She said training and advocacy would be the first step which would involve all stake holders in the states after which a two day programme would be flagged off. A help line is also to be set up to provide assistance to drug users.

The forum also indicated interest to key into the “Future Assured” initiative in order to in order to expand their scope.

Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari has commenced the construction of Aisha Buhari Foundation Orphanage and School in Maiduguri. Foundation of the project was laid by the Deputy Governor of Borno state, Alhaji Usman Mamman Dirkwa on Tuesday, February 28, 2017.

The institution is expected to provide basic necessities of life for orphans, in order to afford them a chance to grow up into normal adulthood; it will provide shelter, educational and health facilities as well as income generating activities.

Mrs. Buhari, who was represented at the event by Senior Special Assistant to the President, Dr. Hajo Sani, has consistently called for more humanitarian action in the North East, matching her words with action with the commencement of the project.

“This project is borne out of my passion of improving the living condition of victims of conflicts and other humanitarian crises, particularly, children.”

Deputy Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Usman Mamman Dirkwa, appreciated the commitment of Mrs. Buhari and prayed God to strengthen her. He also promised that Borno state will continue to provide an enabling environment for humanitarian organizations to operate.

She also used the opportunity to appreciate the concern, love and philanthropy shown by well-meaning Nigerians and organizations towards the IDPs and urged them to do more. She singled out the Governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima, for exhibiting high-level of political will and providing an enabling environment for all humanitarian actors both local and international.

Mrs. Buhari also spoke glowingly of the people of Borno state, whose resilience, spirit of brotherhood and a high sense of neighbourliness has considerably reduced the impact of the displacement on the IDPs; she said this was worthy of emulation by not only Nigerians but by the whole of humanity.

On their part, two young IDPs were full of praises for Mrs. Buhari, who they see as a champion and a vanguard. “She has done a lot for the IDPs. She has been at the forefront of assisting us and reminding others to do the same. Today, water and food are no longer challenges at the IDP camps” said a young IDP.
